Thomas J. Simeone
Thomas J. Simeone is one of the 500 leading Plaintiffs’ lawyers in the United States as selected by Law Dragon Magazine. He is a member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, organizations whose membership is limited to attorneys who have recovered $1,000,000.00 or $2,000,000 or more, respectively, in a single case. Mr. Simeone was named one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Washington, D.C. by the American Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Simeone has also been admitted as a Justice Fellow to the American Academy of Medical Experts
The Harvard Law Review described a recent settlement that Mr. Simeone obtained as "historic." (Vol. 118, No. 5) and the federal judge in the case described the settlement as "groundbreaking." Mr. Simeone was a featured speaker in a panel discussion on civil rights at the 20th International Convention held by Self-Help for Hard of Hearing People, an international advocacy group.
Mr. Simeone has appeared on Fox News as a legal commentator on several occasions. He also appeared in the Washington Post in regard to the settlement of a federal class action suit brought on behalf of disabled persons. He appeared on WJLA Channel 7 and on Univision in regard to a wrongful death case he filed on behalf of two unarmed men who were shot by an off duty police officer. He has also appeared in The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, ESPN.com, and TheSportingNews.com. In 1999, Mr. Simeone appeared on WUSA Channel 9 as its "Newsmaker of the Day" for a class action he filed against PEPCO. He has been interviewed by radio stations WMAL in Washington and WHPC-FM in New York and on cable television station CTV-15 in Washington.
Mr. Simeone is an Adjunct Professor of Law at The George Washington University Law School, where he teaches Trial Advocacy. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Simeone has served as lead trial counsel in several cases resulting in large jury verdicts or settlements, in both state and federal court, including class actions, automobile accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, product liability, employment law and civil rights.
He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, as well as the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of the District of Columbia Trial Lawyer Association.
Mr. Simeone is a 1991 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, where he was named as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar in each of his three years. While at Columbia, he published an article on New York child custody law in The Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems and served as an editor of that journal. Mr. Simeone received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, where he was named to the Dean's List for 6 semesters, served on the School of Management's Dean's Advisory Board, and was a recipient of the New York State Society of C.P.A.'s Career Placement Award.
After graduating from Syracuse, Mr. Simeone worked for Price Waterhouse, where his clients included USA Today, The National Gallery of Art, and The World Bank.
Before starting Simeone & Miller, Mr. Simeone was a partner at Cohen & Cohen, P.C., and an associate attorney with Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman) in Washington, D.C. At Cohen & Cohen, Mr. Simeone oversaw the firm's litigation practice and was lead attorney in a caseload of sophisticated personal injury matters, including serious automobile accidents, product liability, tobacco litigation, class actions, premises liability, medical malpractice and civil rights. At Shaw Pittman, Mr. Simeone worked in the firm's litigation department on cases involving securities law, commercial litigation, criminal law, and energy law.
