One of the questions I am sometimes asked is, what are the things I can do to protect myself in a medical malpractice case?

Doctors and nurses will have medical records to back up what they say happened. You want to have something similar to back up what you say happened.

So if you suspect malpractice, if something was not done correctly, or if a nurse or doctor tells you something important about what happened, you should make sure you create a record.

The best way to do that is to send an email to yourself or send a text message to yourself.

That way, you have a date and time stamp showing when it happened, and you can write down exactly who said what.

Later, if you testify that a doctor told you something or a nurse told you something, and they deny it or say it is not in the medical record, you have documentation showing that they did.

That simple step can help protect you in a potential medical malpractice case.
